In his new position, Dr. Marco Pistoia offers a wealth of experience. Niccolò de Masi will be his direct supervisor. He will continue to oversee IonQ’s Special Projects group in addition to leading IonQ Italia. Dr. Pistoia oversaw the company’s major quantum computing and security projects while working as the Head of Global Technology Applied Research at JPMorgan Chase in New York before joining IonQ. He contributed to research at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Centre for more than 20 years before joining JPMorgan Chase. He was recognized as a Master Inventor and Distinguished Research Staff Member during his tenure at IBM, where he also held the position of Head of Quantum Algorithms and Applications.
Dr. Pistoia graduated from New York University with a Ph.D. in mathematics. He holds over 650 patents and has authored over 200 scientific publications, demonstrating his outstanding scientific output. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office named him one of the top 250 American inventors of all time in 2022, officially acknowledging his significant influence on innovation.
