How Alice&Bob Company Solves Quantum Noise with Cat Qubits

Horizon Quantum and Alice & Bob Forge a New Path to Fault-Tolerant Computing

Horizon Quantum Computing and Alice & Bob have established a strategic cooperation to bridge the gap between abstract quantum algorithms and robust, fault-tolerant hardware, marking a significant change in the race toward practical quantum utility. The partnership aims to combine Horizon Quantum‘s “Triple Alpha” development environment with Alice & Bob’s customized “cat qubit” emulators. The two businesses hope to give developers a “full-stack” route to creating apps that can withstand the noisy realities of quantum physics by combining Horizon’s proficiency in hardware-agnostic compilation with Alice & Bob’s industry-leading error-correction architecture.

The Problem of Noise: The Quest for Fault Tolerance

The field of quantum computing has come to a crucial turning point. Although existing “Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum” (NISQ) devices have shown promise for quantum speedup, decoherence the tendency of quantum information to disappear when disturbed by even the smallest heat or electromagnetic interference plagues them. Industry must switch to Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing (FTQC) to address practical issues in domains like banking, chemistry, and encryption.

Quantum Error Correction (QEC), which combines numerous physical qubits into a single “logical qubit” that is stable even in the event that some of its constituent parts fail, is necessary for this shift. Nevertheless, conventional QEC techniques are infamously resource-intensive, frequently requiring millions of physical qubits to generate a small number of dependable logical ones. Alice & Bob’s Efficiency Breakthrough

The “cat qubit” technology developed by Paris-based hardware pioneer Alice & Bob has drawn attention from all around the world. Cat qubits, in contrast to conventional qubits, are made with “built-in” defenses against bit-flips, one of the two main categories of quantum mistakes. Alice & Bob considerably lessens the complexity of the remaining error correction required at the software level by addressing one kind of error at the hardware level.

In comparison to conventional superconducting methods, the company recently showed that their architecture may cut the physical qubit overhead for a large-scale system by up to 200 times. For instance, a competitor’s computer might only need 100,000 cat qubits to complete a task that might require 20 million physical qubits. Large-scale system realization is now considerably more feasible due to this efficiency.

Horizon Quantum: Automating the Quantum Stack

Horizon Quantum Computing supplies the “navigation system,” while Alice and Bob construct the “engine.” Horizon, a Singapore-based company, has been working on Triple Alpha for years. It is a software infrastructure that can automatically translate high-level code into efficient quantum circuits.

The goal of Horizon is to enable software engineers without a PhD in quantum physics to use quantum computing. Their Triple Alpha platform enables programmers to create device-independent applications and then optimizes them according to the particular limitations of the intended hardware. Scaling quantum applications outside of experimental laboratory settings requires this automation.

Details of the Strategic Collaboration

The recently announced agreement includes several major technology integrations to speed up development:

  • Hardware Emulation in the Cloud: Alice & Bob plans to use Horizon’s Triple Alpha platform to offer “virtual versions” of its upcoming quantum processing units (QPUs). This enables programmers to evaluate the performance of their algorithms on cat-qubit hardware well in advance of the full deployment of the actual chips.
  • Resource Analysis & Optimisation: Alice & Bob’s backends will benefit from Horizon’s sophisticated resource analysis tools. This enables developers to monitor important parameters at several levels of abstraction, like total qubit count, gate depth, and error rates. In order to “right-size” an algorithm to meet the limitations of early fault-tolerant computers, this information is crucial.
  • A Direct Compilation Pipeline: Triple Alpha becomes one of the main compilation pipelines for Alice & Bob’s hardware as a result of the agreement. Horizon’s software will be prepared to instantly apply sophisticated, error-corrected algorithms to Alice & Bob’s next generation of QPUs.

Leadership Perspectives on a Rigorous Future

“Developing fault-tolerant systems is essential to achieving the full potential of quantum computing,” stated Dr. Joe Fitzsimons, CEO of Horizon Quantum Computing. He thinks the collaboration will advance the development of workable fault-tolerant quantum computing by combining Alice & Bob’s knowledge of fault-tolerant hardware architectures with Horizon Quantum’s proficiency in quantum programming and compilation.

The CEO of Alice & Bob, Dr.”au Peronnin, agreed, stressing the importance of a thorough, research-based strategy. “Building a complete quantum software stack requires careful integration of algorithms, error correction, and compilation,” Peronnin said. He thinks Horizon Quantum is key to solving these difficulties.

The Road Ahead: 2026 and Beyond

The businesses are expanding quickly at the time of this alliance. At its headquarters in Singapore, Horizon Quantum recently became the first software-focused company to own and run its own in-house quantum computer. Additionally, the company is pursuing a Nasdaq public offering through a business merger with dMY Squared Technology Group.

Meanwhile, Alice & Bob keeps achieving hardware plan milestones. With more than 150 professionals on staff and more than €130 million in investment, the company is getting ready to introduce real-world hardware that can carry out challenging QEC operations.

Through the combination of Horizon’s automated software deployment and Alice & Bob’s hardware efficiency, the two businesses are essentially accelerating the “Quantum Advantage” timeline the point at which a quantum computer can resolve a commercially significant issue that a classical supercomputer cannot. The Horizon-Alice & Bob partnership offers a quicker, more dependable route to the quantum future for a variety of businesses, from financial institutions seeking quicker optimization to pharmaceutical behemoths searching for new molecular simulations.
