Infleqtion Partners With ORNL For Quantum HPC Integration

Posted on November 19, 2025 by Nithya Suresh4 min read

A Significant Initiative to Quicken Quantum HPC Integration Is Launched by Infleqtion and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Leveraging the Power of the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility.

Quantum-HPC integration

Oak Ridge National Laboratory and leading quantum computing firm Infleqtion announced a substantial collaboration. Quantum HPC integration is this strategic partnership’s goal. This research aims to combine HPC infrastructure’s capability with quantum systems’ cutting-edge capabilities.

This partnership aims to accelerate and smooth quantum technology incorporation into the HPC ecosystem. Infleqtion and ORNL want to establish integrated computing frameworks for complex issues that supercomputers can’t tackle. A crucial step towards obtaining previously unheard-of processing capacity for research and business is the combination of quantum computing and supercomputing.

Infleqtion’s Contribution: Neutral Atom Quantum Computing

A key component of this innovative partnership is making use of ORNL’s vast facilities. Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest DOE research and energy lab. The lab manages the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF).

The OLCF is vital to the DOE Office of Science as a User Facility. Frontier, the world’s fastest and most powerful supercomputer, is in the OLCF. Frontier’s cutting-edge capabilities and the neighbouring OLCF infrastructure will be used to directly merge quantum resources. For hybrid quantum-classical algorithms to be developed and tested effectively, this co-location and integration are necessary.

The OLCF’s work will be crucial in laying the groundwork for the larger scientific community that depends on DOE facilities to have easy access to and use quantum computing resources. This partnership emphasises how vital national laboratories are to the development of the next wave of computer infrastructure required to sustain technological leadership.

Infleqtion’s Contribution: Neutral Atom Quantum Computing

Particularly in the area of quantum computing, Infleqtion contributes its specialized knowledge and technology to the partnership. The company specializes in neutral atom quantum computing and offers quantum-enabled products.

Infleqtion’s neutral atom quantum computing testbed will be a crucial aspect of this collaboration. A scalable and reliable platform for creating intricate algorithms and investigating basic quantum physics is provided by neutral atom technology, a sophisticated method of quantum computation. The partners intend to test and evaluate novel computational approaches that leverage the advantages of both quantum and classical systems by directly integrating this specialised testbed with ORNL’s supercomputing capabilities.

Researchers can investigate quantum phenomena and carry out quantum computations tailored for certain scientific and industrial applications at the neutral atom quantum computing testbed. Through this integration, the quantum testbed will be able to collaborate with the OLCF’s potent classical processors to control workflows, pre-process results, and receive data.

Developing New Tools and Algorithms for Complex Challenges

The creation of certain tools and algorithms intended specifically for integrated quantum-HPC systems is a noteworthy result anticipated from this collaboration. Creating completely new software layers, compilers, and programming models that can effectively divide and manage activities across quantum and conventional processors is necessary to integrate these divergent computing paradigms; it is not just a physical difficulty.

To move quantum computing from a theoretical endeavour to a useful application in the HPC environment, certain algorithms and tools must be developed. The tools must allow researchers to use the enormous data processing and simulation capability of supercomputers like Frontier while seamlessly utilizing the capabilities of the quantum testbed.

The integrated systems that emerge from this collaboration are ultimately meant to be used to tackle challenging scientific and industrial problems. Researchers want to solve unsolvable issues in materials science, drug discovery, fundamental physics, and optimization using HPC’s speed and scale and quantum mechanics‘ problem-solving powers. Working together, the developers can ensure quantum computing complements and is compatible with essential national research program computational infrastructure.

Infleqtion and Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s collaboration shows how public and private sector research and innovation may promote advanced computing.
